Does cap and trade step on the 10 amendment? Stealing powers from states & sending it to Federal Govt?
"powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people."
The federal Govt. overstepping their rights… Nationalization going crazy with Obama!
Here is all the codes that the Federal Government is imposing:
California standards that currently ran them BANKRUPT!
It gives the federal government branch of energy power to set any law they want!!!! (.. has the power to change the consumer’s habits anyway they need…)
EVERY HOUSE MUST HAVE AN OUTLET THAT WILL CHARGE AN ELECTRIC CAR.
I’m typing as they say it on c-span… Fannie and Fredie will get a credit for every energy efficient house they loan out….NOT YOU!
Tons of credits to fannie and freddie if they loan to people who can afford their new green standard
all new construction: They tell you what building materials you can use.
the fed. govt. holds the power to decide what is green.
shifts massive amounts of power to the federal Govt. to decide how you can build your house.
all appraisers to be retrained to appraise your house on green standards which will effect the price of house.Your house will be worth less if it is not green… This is for old houses and public buildings too.
Steven.. are you crazy? you into BDSM? You never choose Federal Slavery! Power to the States yes but not transfering all power of the whole United States to ONE HOUSE! That is insane.
basically the Federal Govt. (white house) will come INTO your home and tell you how to live. Slippery slope of Dictatorship.

Are nightlights energy drainers?
We have a light sensor-type nightlight, but they’re plugged into areas in the house where it’s not very bright (windows are too far for enough light). So, the sensors keep the nightlights on most of the time. My husband keeps unplugging the things because he thinks it’s using up too much energy. And so in the middle of the night, because it wasn’t plugged back in, I’m stubbing a toe on the way to the bathroom. Is it REALLY that ‘un-green’ to use a nightlight!??!

green homes?
I want to build a house that is energy efficient and wanted to know how I might build one that stands on its own.

If the rest of the world wants to live in passive houses, drive green, live in a bright world?
Then why do some want to live in their dark world of energy crises, conflicts, pollution, unsafe supply, and climat risks ?
from what I read in the last question, some people feel very threatened in their lifestyle. Why? Are people not educated about the solutions?
A passive house is a kind of high tech house developed in Germany which uses only 5% of the energy a conventional house uses. It furthermore leads to a cleaner air and more homogeneous temperature (=more comfort).
FYI: I am not a hippie but an energy engineer.
Maybe you are scared because you have never seen good green technologies at work.
A large share of new houses sold in Scandinavia and Germany are passive houses.
Maren Mc.. : I decreased GHG more than I can ever emit during all my life.
JELLLO: Passive houses are not eugenics, or a proganda or whatever. Like every efficient product, they are just an improvement and adaptation to a new technico-economic level
YOU DON“T NEED TO USE NAME CALLING.
Waas up: interesting. In europe we actually put a compressor in the house to see how much air flows… meaning how air tight the house is.

Why should I bother saving energy…the planet owes me?
I grew up in a freezing cold house, (sometimes my glass of water by my bed froze) I walk everywhere and didn’t even go abroad on a plane till I was 20.
When entire cities in Vagas and Tokyo don’t turn their advertisment billboard lights off at night, why should I sit in a sweater the perpetual twighlight of a (mercury filled) energy saving lightbulb sorting my green and brown glass out.
It gets dark at 4.00 in the evening here, I’m at least deserving to be nice and (even slightly uncomfortably) warm. Global warming isn’t even proven.

Is the sun heating up?
Is it possible that the planet is not really suffering from the green house effect rather the sun’s solar energy is increasing in temperature. The longer a fire burns, the hotter it’s temperature…I remember studying in school that stars eventually burn out…is "our" sun just going through cycles which we can’t really control and the "green" efforts on our part will not stop the green house effect - regardless??

How “Green” does Gore live?
I am interested in how environmentally friendly Gore lives since I think a person’s actions say more than his words. Any help would be appreciated.
Does he live in a small house and not use much electricity?
Does he drive a small car with great gas mileage?
Does he fly on private jets or does he catch a flight in airports?
Overall does he use more or less energy than the average US citizen?

Can Hemp really save the world?
If you reply Yes or No please take a moment to explain your answer.
HEMP CREATES:
Ships and Sails
Textiles & Fabrics
Fiber & Pulp Paper
Rope, Twine & Cordage
Art Canvas
Paints & Varnishes
Lighting Oil
Biomass Energy
Medicine
Food Oils & Protein
Building Materials & Housing
Smoking, Leisure & Creativity
Economic Stability, Profit & Free Trade
Jack Herer wrote The Emperor Wears No Clothes which is an in depth look at how Hemp can save the world. With all the Green Energy Craze going on…you cant get much greener than that.
I like many of the rest of you know the answer to this question.
Many of us know that big Corporations have a vested interest in not legalizing this truly magical plant.
Im just tired of people thinking they know whats best for YOU. If an idiot can jump off a building cause he lost it all in the stock market I should be able to smoke or use a plant the way I know it can add to bettering my life without some jacka$$ shoving a law down my throat so that ill buy his product.
I hope my generation has seen the lies and the corporate greed and some how wait till these old conservatives that only think of money and corporate gains for their stockholders, die off to get the job done.
There are too many good answers and some stupid replies that even had validity, however we must educate the rest of the masses or they might just use coal as the alternative to petroleum.

How many solar panels?
OK - I want to put my green house on 100% solar - what do I need to know about solar panels and what do I look for?
Then I was curious about my home - if I wanted to offset some costs what do I look for. I see lots of kits just don’t know which to get.
Lastly - storage can you store solar energy in a battery of some sort.

Why can’t congress go green at the Capital Power Plant?
The Capitol Power Plant, a 99-year-old facility that heats and cools the hallowed halls of Congress, still burns coal and accounts for one-third of the legislative branch’s greenhouse gas emissions. For a decade, lawmakers have attempted to clean it up.
In recent years, Congress has reduced its energy consumption. The steam and chilled-water power plant has become more efficient. It now burns more natural gas and only 35 percent coal, compared with 49 percent in 2007.
But Congress is running out of options to make the plant fully green. On Friday the House announced that it was abandoning its goal to be carbon neutral and would no longer buy offsets to make sure it was removing as much carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as it releases. Those offsets were key to zeroing out the remaining emissions at the power plant that could not be reduced by other means.
So if Congress is abandoning its carbon swap program, how can it force business and you and I to do the same thing?

Cat has nasal blockage, wont eat,no energy, uncontrolled urinating where she lays what should I do? Vet??
Just bought cat 4 weeks ago from animal shelter. KC (cat) has been hiding for the last 3 weeks in the house and has been extremely upset if we try to make contact. She finally came out last week and we have had a chance to play with her. Now she seems to have some sort of sinus infection and is not eating. Low energy, lots of green mucus running from nose and watery eyes. Also she is not using her liter box anymore, she will just go bathroom were she is laying and will continue to lay in it. When we move her to clean it up, she gets upset. Do I take her to the vet or will this pass on its own?

Name of job for researching/developing new, cleaner, and more efficient energy sources or materials?
What is the name for this job? Someone who creates "green" forms of energy and materials for mass usage. Like developing solar panels or ways to capture wind energy. Or like creating "green" houses that use very little energy.

Moving to a more energy efficient home. Any way to calculate the energy savings?
I am an energy saving buff (all about going Green) and I am moving from an other home built in the 60s to a house that was built in 96. The new home is all electric. We were paying electric and gas at the older house. It is well insulated and we will be purchasing energy star appliances. We are only paying about 0-0 more a month with this move and I am hoping we will off-set that will the energy savings in the more efficient house. Is there anyway I can calculate this?

Can we phase out dirty power by replacing it with clean power one power plant per state per year?
The dirtiest power plants can be scientifically identified so that they are replaced first. I know that it takes time to do but if a pipeline process was started that would replace one dirty power plant in every state of the US every year the paperwork could be done on the dirtiest power plants as they wait for their turn to be replaced. The paper work would have to be done for the first one before work could begin but if they all started there paper work at the start then they would be able to keep ahead of the replacement process once it got rolling. Is this a good method that would effectively green the entire US electrical production industry, make renewable energy more affordible, reduce fossil fuel use and help increase oil independence, boost the clean green tech industry, and provide white, blue and green coller jobs, effectively reducing green house gas emissions and other pollutents simultainiously? Could this same process be used to green other industries?

Please compare Gore (House #1) vs Bush (House #2)?
House #1
A 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over 00 per month. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern ’snow belt’ area. It’s in the South.
House #2
Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every ‘green’ feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground.
The water (usually 67 degrees F) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas and it consumes one-quarter electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape.
I guess reading apprehension is no longer a required course in school eh Corey?

healthy diet but lack of energy?
i have a healthy diet, eating alot of fresh fruits and vegetables. however, i dont eat much (3 meals a day but small portions). i exercise moderately too (hours of shopping/walking 2x a week, running 2 miles 2x a week). i’ve been drinking green tea in order to relax more and to have more energy and seldomly drink juices and sodas. i sleep around 6-7 hours a day. im a calm person but i dont have as much as energy as i used to have. one big reason could be because i constantly clean the house/do dishes, whereas before i did not. any suggestions on how to improve my energy? btw im 18 years old female

Shouldn’t our President reinstall solar panels on the White House?
President Carter tried to help lead our country toward alternative energy by installing solar panels in the roof of the White House. Soon after arriving in DC, Reagan promptly removed them. I believe our President should lead by example and that our first family should be more "green" than most of the rest of us. Overhaul the executive fleet and only use fuel efficient vehicles, add solar panels to the grandeur of the White House, and recycle. Agreed?

Should I cut down my trees to go “green”?
Our government wants to give me a monetary incentive (tax rebate) to put up solar panels on my house in Florida. I currently have large oak trees that shade my house thereby reducing the energy use for air conditioning but also preventing me from putting up solar panels. If I go along with the government plan, I will cut down the oak trees so I can go solar (Cut down the trees to go "green"?!!!). There are several issues I must deal with here:
1) Cutting down those beautiful old oaks will make make the various fauna homeless.
2) Those oaks pull a lot of CO2 from the air. Won’t I get a net increase of greenhouse gases by cutting down and burning (or just natural decaying) them?
3) Solar is a BIG dollar investment that might be wiped out with the next hurricane. (No one makes 120mph wind solar panels)
Why is our government so short-sighted and simple-minded over this "global warming" issue?
