Good news ! China has declared they will become major green world power?

How about three cheers for the White House and Obama for getting them to do this instead of waiting for the U.S. If the world’s biggest economy can turn green by cooperating, why can’t we?
I meant to say the world’s biggest emitter, I think we still have the larger economy.

How many of you feel displeasure over our candidates?

I am neither a republican or democrat, I tend to lean conservative, but vote for whatever candidate I believe is best, regardless of party.

That being said, how many of you feel that none of the candidates we have this year can fix America?

Both McCain and Obama are soft on the boders and illegal aliens.

McCain and Obama support Lieberman’s bill that would tax energy to reduce green house gases. This bill would not only cripple the economy, but it will also eliminate roughly 9% of America’s remaining factory jobs. Thus creating us to depend even more on consuming to support our economy.

After doing research on both candidates, I really hope there is a viable third party candidate.

Does anyone else feel this way?
I don’t think you can classify Bush as a true conservative.

His policy has been to spend to make government bigger, that’s not what a true conservative is.

A true conservative is someone that believes in small government with minimal taxes and states rights to decide over the federal government.

Should poor countries sacrifice their economies to stop global warming and environmental issues?

This question comes after reading an article where China says that poor countries should not sacrifice their growth to the general concern about global warming and other environment issues. They have a point by adding that most of the green house emissions comes from the richest countries and that the effect of slowing their economy is far worst than the global warming effect. I belief that if we are able to travel to the moon and orbit the earth, we can find a better way to produce our goods and energy needs in a more efficient and cleaner way than today. Because of the fundings needed for research and development it needs to be done by the governments of the wealthiest nations. We as individual also need to play a part to be more efficient in the use of energy, water and goods. And this is not only is good for the environment but also for your own family budget.

Seeing what Obama has done, who thinks McCain had a better approach to helping our economy?

I think stabilizing the Housing Market with the 1st bail-outs money would have been the best thing to do. I also think building Nuclear plants would have been a big ‘job creator’ and an ‘GREEN energy’ solution. I also feel that his plan to cut tax on Businesses would have helped in this struggling economy, so why did we not elect that guy again?

Is fighting against ” FREE TRADE ” the best way to be green ?

I see a lot of people in this forum concerned on how they can reduce their energy consumption, reducing green house emissions, blaming the problem on our society , or even complaining about their tenant refusing to recycle. I would imagine if we were to band together and fight to have NAFTA shut down, the positive impact to the global environment would be 10 folds greater.

When a company transfers it operations out of the U.S. , it has to follow the regulations of its host country. A lot of countries laws show little regard for the environment, and these companies will cut what ever corners they will be allowed to.

Should we not strive to bring them back onto the U.S., so we can keep a closer eye on them ?
julvurg - read my question before answering.
Linda - you said ending NAFTA, would cost us a lot of jobs…. NAFTA has allowed a lot of companies to leave the U.S., and hurt our economy.

Has Cap & Trade worked ANYWHERE it has been tried?? What about “green energy”?

Because the U.S. House of Representatives just passed a bill that would basically mandate the use of "green" energy.

BUT, I seem to remember this being EXACTLY what California tried a few years ago………….not working out so well. Spain also tried this………..not working out so well. In fact a recent study concluded that Spain LOST 2.2 regular jobs for every temporary "green" job that was created.

So I’m just curious, other than Barack Obama SAYING this isn’t going to hurt the economy, what EVIDENCE is there that this will work (when every other time it has failed and caused higher energy prices)?

The bill is called The American Clean Energy and Security Act. (aka HR 2454)

How can you tell which stocks are going to give you the most success?

I’m just wondering- I’m green in stock trading, and I don’t intend to start until the economy gets better. Meanwhile, I’d like to first know what I should buy once things clear up….Thanks in advance!

Should oil companies only be eligible for any government money if they use it all on switching to green energy

Would this help steer things in the right direction without harming the economy or costing any jobs? They could use some of it on job retraining to switch from oil jobs to green energy jobs and some on research, some on devolopment, some on advertising and the rest on producing green energy for new demand and to replace dirty energy production which would HAVE to be phased out in order to prevent the damage to the climate from the green house gases they would emit if they weren't replaced.

I am 42 and want to change careers to a green energy job such as a consultant, does any one have ideas?

I am willing to train up to a year, but I am not sure which direction to go into. I am not an engineer but have scientific background. I think our economy is going in this direction and there will be opurtunities in the green energy area. Please let me know any area's of green energy carreers that is interesting and has decent salary with advancement? Thanks.
