What do you think of Sen. Reid’s plan to include green power transmission in the stimulus package?

“Green” power transmission to move renewable energy to population centers will be part of the economic stimulus bill Democrats move early next year, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said today.

Capitol Hill Democrats hope to have a large economic stimulus package ready for President-elect Barack Obama to sign when he takes office in January. The package, which is projected to reach into the hundreds of billions of dollars, is expected to include investments in various infrastructure projects and energy programs.

Reid said the major energy bill approved in 2007 represented “baby steps” toward expanding renewable energy and energy efficiency, and promised robust efforts in the upcoming Congress, in which Democrats will have a greater majority and will have Obama in the White House.

“We must … find new and efficient ways to get it [renewable power] from the source to the market,” Reid said

What do you think of this part of the economic stimulus plan?

The plan is in its early stages, so I really can’t comment yet except to say this represents the kind of leadership that’s been sadly lacking in America lately. I’d like to see the package that develops come with bipartisan support.

The greening of America is long overdue. Reid is just a small part of what’s coming, but his support on this is important and demonstrates a long standing commitment on his part. I look forward to hearing more of the specifics of the plan in the near future.

Another gigantic waste of time, the kind that has made California such an incredible beacon of good financial management.

Mostly it’s a way to get lots of people to carry political water for him as he pays them off.

He is pandering which is what you would expect from a political hack. The guy is pure partisan and nothing matters but political power. He is the definition of why Americans don’t trust politicians.

I feel an economic stimulus package should concentrate on stimulating the economy. If it doesn’t then it isn’t a good plan.

The government shouldn’t decide what producers produce and shouldn’t keep producers afloat.

The consumers should decide what producers produce, and should decide which producers survive and which fail, and when they’re left to their own devices they do this through their purchasing decisions.

And their decision was to go with Toyota and Honda, so Dana you of all people should favor letting the free market do its work.

And as for the Manbearpig response - I agree but I want to add, the GOP is equally bad on pork barrel spending. The GOP is NOT the "lesser of two evils" - that party is just as evil.

Frankly, at this point, if Obama’s economic picks are allowed to run policy the way they ran it under Clinton, I’d almost say that the Democrats are the lesser of two evils.

I’m still going to vote Libertarian though - the lesser of two evils is still evil.

Or maybe practical distributed power that does not need the high priced infrastructure might just be a good idea. Except for Jimmy Carter we might have building them here and selling them to the world instead now we have to buy them from Japan. Well what can you expect from democrats but failure and corruption.

In principle, it is a positive step in the right direction. I would want to see the details before commenting further.

The man is a simple minded political hack who favors marxists solutions. What a shock, he is GREEN. That has nothing to do with stimulus except stimulating his donations.
