What is an Eco lodge? where can I find a directory or website with true Green Hotels and Ecolodges?
I would like to make my vacation meaningful and I am wondering if anybody knows about a great Eco Lodge in South America or Asia.
I would also like to know how you define a true eco lodge, if they should be solar powered and so on.

An ecolodge is a type of accommodation that have the least possible impact on its environment.
There are no legislation as for now on being an ecolodge and some hotels uses the word "ecolodge" for marketing purpose without truly being one.
I found this website http://www.best-ecolodges.com
to be pretty well done and helpful in defining an eco lodge.
Here is what you should be looking for in a true ecolodge:
- Be energy efficient (solar, wind energy)
- Protect the environment – its flora, fauna and landscape (organic garden, source food locally, recycling, use of bio degradable cleaning agent, buildings are made traditionally without impacting the environment)
- Conserve natural resources (collect rain water, recycle and treat waste water..)
- Support, respect and benefit local culture and economy (provide jobs to local economy, inform tourist about respecting the environment, being involved in project helping the local community…)
I hope this helps! Have fun with your "green holidays!"
