What is this black/green/black power supply connector for?

Hi, I just purchased a replacement power supply for my HP Pavilion 8655C, but the new power supply is missing a 3-prong inline female connector (black/green/black) that plugs into the motherboard, and I'm wondering if I need it or not. Can anyone tell me what it's for? Thanks.
It says "PS FAN" on the motherboard. But I'm confused by that, since I hear the Power Supply Fan running without anything plugged into this spot. Also, my processor doesn't even have its own fan. This is a mystery to me!

I believe that would be how the power gets to your motherboard. Green is ground, and black it the juice connection.

lol @ Leader D… of course it's power!

It doesn't sound like any standard power connector (usually 4 prong) so I'd *guess* that it's for a fan controller if it's a small connector. Compare it to the heatsink fan connector on your CPU.

The purpose of this connector is to control the speed of the fan in your PSU.

*edit* so no, it's probably not needed. Try it out and see what happens. Don't worry, it won't blow up :) at the very worst, it just won't boot, or bump back a BIOS error.

Read the fine print on the motherboard next to the plug.
