When is the best time to cut down asparagus ferns?
They have started to turn brown but the stocks are still quite green

Just leave them alone until they’re completely brown. They aren’t pretty, but it’s the way they grow in nature and the roots seem to need to do it this way.

I agree with rottie mom. I’ve had asparagus ferns 30+ years and that’s exactly what I do. Wait until the entire plant is completely brown, then cut it off near the base. I leave about 1 or 2 inches above the base myself.
Don’t forget to keep watering it over the winter, just water is less than when it’s actively growing. It’s hibernating over the winter, but will still need water - just not as much.
